MEY PLAY

The sampler for the disks you kept.

Introductory price €25, then €49.50. Pay once.

MEY PLAY on its white plate: the programs of a volume, each on its own MIDI channel, the keygroups in colour on the map and on the keys

Open a disk image or a SoundFont, pick a volume and play. MEY PLAY reads the programs and samples straight off your Akai and Kurzweil disks and SoundFonts and plays them with its own voices, a program per MIDI channel, with the ladder filter, envelopes, two delays and reverb of MEY ROB to shape them.

Get the highlights.

Your library at once

Pick a volume and play.

Every program of the volume is in memory the moment you pick it. Put programs on channels with a right-click, see every keygroup in its own colour on the keys, and send the stereo pair through the two delays and reverb of MEY ROB.

Sound

The ladder filter of MEY ROB over your samples.

The SOUND tab puts an amp envelope, a filter envelope and the transistor ladder of MEY ROB, at 12 or 24 dB, over all sixteen channels: cutoff, resonance, drive, key tracking and envelope amount, each automatable from your host.

Leave it off and a program plays exactly as it was saved, with its own envelopes and filter.

Day and night

A white plate, or a dark one.

Knobs, keys and displays stand on a 3D faceplate, on a white plate by day and an anthracite one by night, with red for what is active. One key changes it, and MEY PLAY remembers.

The keys

See where every sample lives.

KEY ZONES colours each keygroup of the program on the keys, in the same colours as the map above them, and switches off with one key. The keys sit deep in their bed and move on springs: down fast, and back up with a small bounce.

Disks

Akai, Kurzweil and SoundFont, played straight.

MEY PLAY reads the programs and samples straight from your Akai S1000 and S1100 hard-disk and CD images, your Kurzweil K2000 and K2500 discs and files, and SoundFonts, and plays them with its own voices.

Pick a volume or a bank and play: no loading pages, no converting, no waiting for a SCSI drive.

16 channels

A program per MIDI channel.

Right-click a program to put it on a channel of your choice, or load the whole volume at once, one program per channel. Move a channel, unload it, take a program out of memory. A channel without a program of its own plays the one you selected.

10 outputs

Ten outputs.

The stereo pair and eight individual outputs, each through its own converter model, so a drum kit can go to eight channels of your desk.

Effects

The two delays and reverb of MEY ROB.

Two delays that follow your tempo, one after the other or side by side, with tone, cross-feed, width, ping-pong and a bucket-brigade mode. Then room, hall, plate and spring with early reflections, diffusion, EQ and width.

Every control MEY ROB has, on the stereo pair, automatable from your host.

Keys

The keygroups in view.

Every program’s keygroups laid over a keyboard, with the samples they play, their velocity layers, filter and tuning, so you see what a program does before you hear it.

Session

Comes back as you left it.

Save your session and it returns the way it was: the disk, the volume, the programs on each channel and the effects.

Around it

Out of your computer’s way.

A native interface that stays out of your computer’s way, channel lamps that follow every note, a keyboard with a channel selector, a licence screen that tells you where you stand, and a standalone app for when you just want to play.

Questions

What do I get for the trial?

The whole plug-in, for 7 days on each computer, with nothing switched off. The days start the first time you open it. After that it stays silent until you add a licence.

What does €25 buy?

One licence key for two computers, macOS or Windows, in VST3, Audio Unit and the standalone app. There is no subscription and no dongle. €25 is the introductory price for the first release; the regular price is €49.50.

Does it run on Windows?

Yes: 64-bit Windows, as VST3 and a standalone app. Windows may ask once whether you trust the installer, because it is not yet signed; choose More info, then Run anyway. On macOS it runs from 10.15 on, on Apple silicon and Intel.

Which formats does it read?

Akai S1000 and S1100 hard-disk, CD and floppy images, Kurzweil K2000 and K2500 CD and floppy images and files (.krz, .k25, .k26), and SoundFonts (.sf2). Read your old floppies into an image file once, and MEY PLAY opens them like any other disk.

Is it an emulation of the Akai or the Kurzweil?

No. MEY PLAY reads the disk formats and plays the programs with voices of our own, and the effects are those of MEY ROB. It contains no code of the original machines. Akai, S1000, S1100, Kurzweil, K2000 and K2500 are trademarks of their owners; MEY is not affiliated with them.

Does it need the internet?

To start the trial and to activate a computer, yes. After that it keeps working offline for up to 45 days.

Can I move it to a new computer?

Yes. Deactivate the old one from the licence screen and the seat is free again.

How do I pay, and when do I get the key?

You pay on Ko-fi. The key is emailed to you, usually within a minute, together with the download link. If it goes missing, you can have it sent again.

Can I get my money back?

The key is delivered immediately, and from that moment the right of withdrawal for digital content ends, as the refund policy explains. That is exactly why the trial exists: try everything first.

Try it free for 7 days.
